If you’re anything like me, you’ll love the fresh scent of numerous essential oils in your daily life.
I find Lavender incredibly relaxing, lemon oil invigorating and uplifting, and Bergamot is great for those cold and dark winter evenings.
Here are a few ways you can use essential oils everyday…
This might be the most appealing way to use essential oils each day. Diffusing essential oils into the air in our homes or next to our workstations is so incredibly easy.
You can use a cute little humidifier or an oil burner. Electronic diffusers and humidifiers tend to require topping up far less often than traditional oil burners. They also sometimes offer soft lighting and double up as excellent nightlights for kids and adults alike.
Add a Few Drops to Your Night Routine
You might find that you sleep better, or get off to sleep significantly faster with the scent of lavender. Avoid placing any of the oil on your pillow or bedsheets as the oil will stain but you can add some to a cotton ball or flannel and place on your nightstand. Now and again, you’ll get a waft of the lavender fragrance.
Add to a Foot Bath
For a quick, relaxing treat at the end of a hard day, add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to a tub of warm water. Add some sea salt or baking soda and immerse your feet in the mixture for up to half an hour (or as long as the water is still warm!).
As a Fragrance in Natural Candles
If you love candles and would like to make your own, think about adding some oils to them for a totally natural and potent fragrance.
Essential oils are highly flammable but you can learn to add them safely. There are many online courses you can choose from or you might like to find a candle making course near you.
Oils such as lavender, geranium, lemongrass and bergamot smell divine when mixed with soy wax. Just make sure any waxes you use come from sustainable sources.
Mix a cup of Epsom, Dead Sea or Himalayan salts with 1-2 drops of lavender oil that has been mixed with a carrier oil such as apricot kernel oil for an incredibly soothing soak.
Relax for half an hour at least.
Don’t rinse off afterwards! Allow the oil to very gently fragrance your skin and soothe your senses.
As a Perfume for Your Hair
Add 1-3 drops of your favorite essential oil that has already been diluted with a carrier oil to the palm of your hand.
Warm the oil up by rubbing your palms together and distribute it over your hands. Run your fingers through your hair and your hair should hold the gentle scent of your chosen oil for at least a few hours.
Add to Body Oil
Again, it’s important to dilute the oil with a carrier oil such as almond oil. Once that has been done, add a couple of drops to your favorite body cream!
Spray Them Into the Air
To help shift stubborn negative energies and scent the air around your home or work space, mix 2-3 drops of any oil you wish into a spray bottle with lots of water. Spray the mixture into the air and allow it to dry naturally on any carpeted surfaces.
Stimulate Your Senses
Keep a nifty little 5-10ml bottle of lavender oil on your desk and whenever you feel a little off balance, take a deep breath of it. It should (literally) instantly relax and invigorate your senses!
For a Lightly Fragranced Sunscreen
If you’re making your own sunscreen using Zinc Oxide, try adding a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the mixture so every time you apply it, you can enjoy that gorgeous fragrance!
